Description

What is Dhaga Mishri? 

Dhaga Mishri literally means Threaded Sugar. It is made by crystallizing sugar syrup around fine threads, usually cotton, which results in long, thread-like formations of rock sugar. It has a pure white, slightly transparent appearance and a mildly sweet taste. 

How is it Made? 

  1. Sugar syrup is prepared by boiling refined sugar in water. 
  1. Fine threads (typically cotton) are dipped into the syrup. 
  1. The threads are hung in a cool place where sugar begins to crystallize on them over time. 
  1. Once crystallization is complete, the threads are dried and cut into pieces. 

Uses of Dhaga Mishri 

  • Sweetener in Ayurvedic medicines, milk, or herbal teas. 
  • Mouth freshener, often eaten with fennel seeds (saunf) after meals. 
  • Prasad or offering in temples and religious rituals. 
  • Soothing remedy for sore throat and cough. 
  • Energy booster – provides instant energy due to its high glucose content.
